Caramel Nut Pumpkintini

Caramel Nut Pumpkintini just simply sounds incredible decadent super super yummy.  Here is an awesome beverage if you are having guests over tomorrow.  Again probably not that healthy, I just figured hey it's the holidays what the hell ;o)

I can't seem to get enough pumpkin this fall!  I'll probably be in pumpkin overload by Thanksgiving, but in the meantime, I'm enjoying all sorts of pumpkin inspired dishes.  To compliment all my pumpkin dishes this fall, I thought a pumpkin flavored cocktail was in order.  I love creating fun and quirky cocktails and this Caramel Nut Pumpkintini is no exception.  It's like a dessert in a glass that will surely impress your friends.  These Caramel Nut Pumpkintinis are easy to make and can easily be multiplied to make more than 1 drink.  You could also serve these Pumpkintinis out of small glasses or shot glasses for a small treat.  Hope you enjoy!

Caramel Nut Pumpkintini

4 tablespoons pumpkin spice liqueur (such as Hiram Walker)
3 tablespoons caramel Irish cream (such as Bailey's)
3 tablespoons cream or milk
1 tablespoon vanilla vodka (such as Pinnacle)
1 tablespoon amaretto (such as Disaronno)
Whipped cream
Cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice
1.  Place all ingredients in shaker with ice. Shake for about 10 seconds, then strain into martini glass.
2.  Top with whipped cream and dash of cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice.
Makes 1 drink

There are three types of diabetes: #3

3) Gestational diabetes
This type affects females during pregnancy. Some women have very high levels of glucose in their
blood, and their bodies are unable to produce enough insulin to transport all of the glucose into
their cells, resulting in progressively rising levels of glucose.

Diagnosis of gestational diabetes is made during pregnancy.

The majority of gestational diabetes patients can control their diabetes with exercise and diet.
Between 10% to 20% of them will need to take some kind of blood-glucose-controlling
medications. Undiagnosed or uncontrolled gestational diabetes can raise the risk of complications
during childbirth. The baby may be bigger than he/she should be.

Scientists from the National Institutes of Health and Harvard University found that women whose
diets before becoming pregnant were high in animal fat and cholesterol had a higher risk for
gestational diabetes, compared to their counterparts whose diets were low in cholesterol and
animal fats.

Type  1 and Type 2

Thursday, September 17, 2015

There are three types of diabetes: #2

2) Type 2 diabetes
The body does not produce enough insulin for proper function, or the cells in the body do not react
to insulin (insulin resistance).

Approximately 90% of all cases of diabetes worldwide are type 2.

Some people may be able to control their type 2 diabetes symptoms by losing weight, following a
healthy diet, doing plenty of exercise, and monitoring their blood glucose levels. However, type 2
diabetes is typically a progressive disease - it gradually gets worse - and the patient will probably
end up have to take insulin, usually in tablet form.

Overweight and obese people have a much higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes compared to
those with a healthy body weight. People with a lot of visceral fat, also known as central obesity,
belly fat, or abdominal obesity, are especially at risk. Being overweight/obese causes the body to
release chemicals that can destabilize the body's cardiovascular and metabolic systems.

Being overweight, physically inactive and eating the wrong foods all contribute to our risk of
developing type 2 diabetes. Drinking just one can of (non-diet) soda per day can raise our risk of
developing type 2 diabetes by 22%, researchers from Imperial College London reported in the
journal Diabetologia. The scientists believe that the impact of sugary soft drinks on diabetes risk
may be a direct one, rather than simply an influence on body weight.

The risk of developing type 2 diabetes is also greater as we get older. Experts are not completely
sure why, but say that as we age we tend to put on weight and become less physically active.
Those with a close relative who had/had type 2 diabetes, people of Middle Eastern, African, or
South Asian descent also have a higher risk of developing the disease.

Feel free to go to our previous posting to see about the first type of Diabetes.

Don't Wish for it ..........Make It

There are three types of diabetes: #1

1) Type 1 diabetes

The body does not produce insulin. Some people may refer to this type as insulin-dependent
diabetes, juvenile diabetes, or early-onset diabetes. People usually develop type 1 diabetes
before their 40th year, often in early adulthood or teenage years.

Type 1 diabetes is nowhere near as common as type 2 diabetes. Approximately 10% of all
diabetes cases are type 1.

Patients with type 1 diabetes will need to take insulin injections for the rest of their life. They
must also ensure proper blood-glucose levels by carrying out regular blood tests and following a
special diet.

Fast facts on diabetes

Fast facts on diabetes

Here are some key points about diabetes.

Diabetes is a long-term condition that causes high blood sugar levels.

In 2013 it was estimated that over 382 million people throughout the world had diabetes (Williams textbook of endocrinology).

Type 1 Diabetes - the body does not produce insulin. Approximately 10% of all diabetes cases are type 1.

Type 2 Diabetes - the body does not produce enough insulin for proper function. Approximately 90% of all cases of diabetes worldwide are of this type.

Gestational Diabetes - this type affects females during pregnancy.

The most common diabetes symptoms include frequent urination, intense thirst and hunger, weight gain, unusual weight loss, fatigue, cuts and bruises that do not heal, male sexual dysfunction, numbness and tingling in hands and feet.

If you have Type 1 and follow a healthy eating plan, do adequate exercise, and take insulin, you can lead a normal life.

Type 2 patients need to eat healthily, be physically active, and test their blood glucose. They may also need to take oral medication, and/or insulin to control blood glucose levels.

As the risk of cardiovascular disease is much higher for a diabetic, it is crucial that blood pressure and cholesterol levels are monitored regularly.

As smoking might have a serious effect on cardiovascular health, diabetics should stop smoking.
Hypoglycemia - low blood glucose - can have a bad effect on the patient. Hyperglycemia - when blood glucose is too high - can also have a bad effect on the patient.

Fit Bottom Girls

I came across Fit Bottomed Girl Challenge on Social Media and I fell in love with the idea of the challenge.  Every day it is something progressively different that I would love to try and complete.

Can't hurt to try right?

So Challenge for September 1, 2015 is to tell Fit Bottomed Girl Why I feel that September is my month.  This is an easy one for me I only hope the rest of the month will be this simple.  September is my month because I feel I have Dodged the last bullet I'm going to get.  It's time for a change.  No more excuses, No more laziness, No more not taking responsibility for my health.

Dodging the last bullet

I feel that this is the last bullet that I will get to dodge.  God has granted me this chance to get my stuff together.  He is truly saying to me either you get it together girl or your time will be up.  I have so many things I want to do, see, and conquer that my time cannot be up.  It's up to me to get it together.

I remember being on Atkins years ago and telling people that had Diabetes how Atkins was a lifestyle that was geared for Diabetics.  So I would totally be hypocritical if I didn't go back to that lifestyle.  I feel as if I'm ready.  I'm stronger than I was years ago.  It's just me and I don't have to worry about supply for extra baggage.   Which feels amazing!!!

9 Little Gifts of Goodness

By Michael Roizen, M.D. and Mehmet Oz, M.D.
9 Little Gifts of Goodness

Bring a little good cheer into a friend's life for various occasions. Here's a list of nine mini-gifts that will make everyone healthier and happier (including you, because giving is a great feeling).

1. A half-pound of walnuts. Eating 12 halves daily may increase lifespan 20 percent! And munching six halves 30 minutes before mealtime is an effective way to control appetite.

2. A half-pound of (70 percent cacao) chocolate. One ounce daily may cut heart attack and stroke risk 30 percent while preventing some cancers. And, oh yeah, it tastes great!

3. A pound of coffee (320 ounces of java).. Your daily dose (three cups) can cut stroke risk by 30 percent and may help prevent some cancers, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease and Type 2 diabetes.

4. One bottle of wine. Provides 5-7 glasses; one-a-day for women, two for men. Boosts good HDL and reduces lousy LDL, keeping everything from the brain to sexual functions up and running.

5. Garlic goodies. Garlic-infused olive oil and a garlic press deliver an immune-boosting, heart-healthy flavor!

6. Jump rope, pedometer and exercise bands. Nothing relieves stress, lowers heart disease risk and protects against diabetes like exercise; cool "toys" are a great incentive to get going!

7. Lavender aromatherapy oil. Give the gift of sleep; sniff the scent for 20 minutes before bedtime. Then, sweet dreams!

8. Thank-you notes. Expressing gratitude improves everyone's happiness quotient.

9. Our newly revised "YOU: The Owner's Manual" (also available at the library). Your friends can discover all our secrets for a long, happy, healthy life.

For starters, Carrots.  Carrots are an excellent source of natural Flouride according to Dr. Bob.

10 Ways To Learn From Mistakes Series....Beliefnet Tip #3

10 Ways To Learn From Mistakes

Need2behealthy is a blog where I can journal about becoming healthy, to include physically, emotionally, and every other way that you can thing of.  I read this article on Belief.net and thought that it would make a great little series, especially since it has been so long since I have done one.
Just because you made a mistake or an unwise decision doesn't mean your life is over. Learn from it and grow through the experience. These tips can help...
Tip #3
Best-vs-Good
Don’t settle for what’s good and miss out on God’s best for your life. We've all done it but learn to stick to your standards and don’t let up for anyone.
I think that this is a difficult one for a lot of people.  See it is in our nature to want to be liked by everyone or even some, which means, that here or there in our lifetime we compromise our standards, which is not cool at all.  Lord knows I have settled especially in my relationships.  If you believe in God and you know, feel believe, and have faith that he is going to provide you with what is the best for your life than we as his children should stick to the standards that he has implemented for us.  It's just really that simple.

It's a struggle every day......I really wish it could be easier

Yesterday was a true struggle for me.  I was hungry and didn't want a shake but wanted something pretty hearty and bad for me like a Hamburger or chicken sandwich from Burger King so I decided I was going to get it.   My daughter is sick so she asked me to go and purchase her some Thai soup which I did.  I left the Thai soup place and headed towards Burger King.  Now on the way to getting her Thai Soup I was battling with myself do I want Burger King or do I want Taco Bell.  And then something hit me.  What are you doing?  Neither one should be purchased.  You have to change your life or it will never get better.

See I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired.  How many years have I said this on this blog alone?  But today I'm happy to report that the struggle yesterday did not beat me.  I went to Walmart purchased myself a roasted chicken and came home and fixed me a chicken salad.

I beat the struggle yesterday and I can't even tell you.  How proud of myself I am!!  One hour at a time, One day at a time.....  It's all I can do.

Tip #2
 Where's Your Peace?
Where there is wisdom there is peace. One way to avoid repeating the same mistake is to follow your peace.

My brother used to tell me "you can't put a price on peace of mind" .  That always stuck with me and as a result really helps me when I think about going down a rabbit whole that I have visited many many times.

Day 6......I'm starting all over again

So because I had such great results last year with the Nutri Bullet smoothies, my daughter and I decided that we would start it all over again.  So I am now on Day 6 and I feel amazing.  If I could just get rid of the pain in my legs, it would be so much easier.

Here are a few diary pics of my 6th day of smoothies.  This smoothie consisted of kale, berries, mango, banana, and almond milk.  Absolutely delicious!!!
